| Basic purpose | The successful candidate will be responsible for the transgenic seed bank which includes the processing, storage, distribution to clients of seeds grown in containment facilities. She/He will keep a database of the seed in storage and ensure that transgenic seeds from the various transformation projects under the responsibility of the Senior Scientist are turned – over for proper storage and utilization. She/He will also ensure good housekeeping and that the integrity of transgenic facilities such as CL4 and transgenic screen houses are maintained. She/He will ensure that compliance to biosafety rules and regulations and protocols in the handling of transgenic materials are followed. |
| Roles and responsibilities | ●
In charge of the storage of transgenic seeds including keeping an
update of seed inventory and distribution to clients, upon approval of
the GTL Head ● Oversee the harvesting and processing of transgenic seeds harvested from CL4 ● Ensure that plants grown in transgenic facilities such as CL4, and screen houses, and non – transgenic screen house are healthy and well – maintained ● Coordinate with in – house staff and those from other units for the space reservation and use of pots in CL4 and ensure good housekeeping, and physical maintenance of the transgenic facilities ● Ensure the compliance to the set rules of behavior, biosafety protocols and handling of transgenic materials of staff working in transgenic plant facilities ● Supervise technicians and contract workers ● Assist in the phenotyping of materials in CL4 anf transgenic screen houses ● Perform other responsibilities assigned by the supervisor(s) from time to time Qualification requirements: ● BS or MS in Agriculture or related course ● Experience in harvesting, processing and storage of transgenic plant materials, including maintenance of seed database; management of transgenic plant facilities and conduct of experiments, strong knowledge on biosafety ● Advanced computer literacy; handling and operation of postharvest equipment ● High level of professionalism in dealing with colleagues and clients, pays particular attention to details, hardworking, critical thinking ● Strong knowledge on biosafety procedures |
