WRI
recently launched a five-year global effort that aims at enabling key
decision-makers in China, India and Brazil to take informed, effective
action to create cities that are more environmentally-sustainable and
livable. In each country, we will work with partner cities to create
blueprints for action and launch high-impact demonstration projects that
can be replicated in other growing cities around the world. In China,
WRI will be working in a few emerging cities and will specifically focus
on sustainability in areas of energy, water and transport.
WRI
China Office is seeking for a dedicated, analytical, results-oriented
Research Analyst to work on the WRI’s Sustainable and Livable Cities
Initiative. The major responsibility of this position is to implement
energy projects of the Initiative in China together with other team
members of the energy pillar.

The Research Analyst will carry out activities as below:
- Conduct
research and analysis on the low carbon development blueprint for the
Initiative’s pilot cities, including energy and carbon emission
analysis, future energy and emission scenarios, low carbon technology
and policy roadmap of the key sectors;
- Identify practical energy
solutions and projects for the low carbon development of pilot cities,
and support the related capacity building activities, including low
carbon communities and industrial zones, energy performance contracting,
renewable energy development, and distributed energy system, etc.;
- Conduct
research on standardized methodologies, guidelines, tools on the low
carbon development planning of cities, especially on energy planning,
through literature review of international practices and domestic
actions;
- Present research findings on workshops and conduct training as needed;
- Assist
to produce, proofread, and edit research reports and papers in both
English and Chinese, and coordinate publication process;
- Support to organize internal/external meetings, workshops, conferences, and other project dissemination activities;
- Assist project development and fundraising activities;
- Assist in some project management work as needed;
- Support other activities as needed.

- Master degree in energy, engineering, environmental science, or related fields, PhD degree is a plus;
- Five
years’ work experience in climate and energy, low carbon cities,
Greenhouse Gas accounting, renewable energy industries, energy
efficiency, public policy, etc.;
- Strong quantitative analytical skills;
- Excellent research, analytical, writing, and presentation skills, preferably with publication experience;
- Ability to work well in a team, manage multiple priorities, take initiative, and deliver under tight deadlines;
- Ability to engage stakeholders, conduct interview and other research activities independently;
- Fluency in written and spoken Mandarin and English;
- Willingness to travel and to concentrate on field work as needed.
Highly preferred
- Experience
in energy and carbon emission analysis and low carbon city development
planning, for example, energy and emission inventories,
projection/scenarios modeling, and low carbon roadmap development, etc.;
- Experience in energy performance contracting;
- Knowledge of building energy efficiency, green buildings, low carbon communities and low carbon industrial zones;
- Knowledge of renewable energy including solar, wind, biofuel, etc.;
- Knowledge
of GHG emissions accounting and measurement protocols, including GHG
Protocol, ISO 14064, CDM methodologies and others;
- International experience, including working or studying aboard, or with multinational corporations and international NGOs.
