Description

CARE is seeking an experienced Emergency Coordinator. S/he will be responsible for the supervision of CARE’s emergency preparedness and response portfolio in Yemen, providing leadership in all emergency programming efforts and leading advocacy initiatives related to the emergency portfolio.
The Emergency Coordinator will have an excellent understanding of humanitarian standards and principles, and have extensive experience in working in complex emergency environments. The EC will have demonstrated experience in developing and managing multi-sectoral humanitarian programs with multiple donors, including proven experience in establishing inter-agency collaboration mechanisms and managing a multi-disciplinary team.
Responsibilities:
  • Program development and management;
  • Monitoring & Evaluation, and reporting;
  • Liaison, coordination, representation and advocacy;
  • Public Relations & Media;
  • Safety and Security.
Required Skills:
  • Post-graduate degree in social/political sciences, arts or in a humanitarian assistance related field;
  • Demonstrated experience in leading humanitarian multi-sectoral humanitarian responses, including participatory assessment methods, in complex emergency contexts with an international NGO or UN agency;
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills including the ability to build and manage complex and diverse stakeholder relationships and develop harmonious teams in a cross cultural context;
  • Experience in advocacy in humanitarian interventions;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English language, Arabic language skills desirable;
  • Ability to produce high quality work and balance competing priorities within demanding timeframes;
  • Excellent understanding of international humanitarian principles and standards, including conflict and gender sensitive programming methodologies.   
Desired Skills:
  • Cultural sensitivity and proven experience in working in the Middle East strongly desired.
