Position Summary
Futures Group is recruiting a part-time (60%) social marketing specialist to provide content knowledge, technical assistance, consultation, and support for the development and execution of its social marketing program in Afghanistan.  This support will include: follow through on plan for sustaining health products; assessing the feasibility and appropriateness of introducing new health products; revising the distribution strategy, including executing community-based distribution pilots;  and providing technical advice and support to the Afghan Social Marketing Organization (ASMO) on improving their social marketing approach, based on use of data. The social marketing specialist will provide high-level technical assistance to developing country policymakers and implementers, including writing position papers, reports, and technical briefs to inform relevant audiences. The candidate will be required to determine methods and procedures on new assignments and manage other staff or consultants in carrying them out. 

Key Responsibilities
  • Provides social marketing expertise/technical assistance to the program, technical staff and administrators as per project/program requirements.
  • Provided technical guidance to and oversight of the Health Policy Project - Afghanistan social marketing program, with a focus on building the capacity of ASMO to manage and grow its activities, including: more sustainable health products; improving portfolio of health products; revising the distribution strategy (including community-based distribution; better projections and warehouse management and reporting; expanding outreach activities and better targeting/segmentation of market; improving analysis and use of data and ability to conduct small research and/or studies to overcome barriers; etc.
  • Provides remote and on-the-ground managerial and operational oversight to the project and activities.
  • Provides analytical and evaluative techniques to identify, consider, and resolve issues or problems.
  • Uses various quantitative and qualitative techniques to perform program analysis tasks.
  • Responsible for the development of activity-specific work plans and budgets.
  • Participates in and/or prepares necessary technical and program-related reports, including presentations and white papers.
  • Guides and supports research, data collection, policy formulation, training and capacity building efforts in support of project activities and deliverables.
  • Ensures quality of services and compliance per project/program requirements.
  • Provides functional guidance to outside vendors to ensure deliverables are met within timelines and budgets.
  • Organizes as needed project/program trainings, conferences, workshops, and meetings.
  • Participates, and represents the organization as needed, in outside associations, conferences, and symposia.
  • Contributes to new business development efforts, as required and appropriate

Qualifications
  • At least 10 years of experience in social marketing, public health, and/or policy formulation related to developing countries, or experience in other fields related to the duties described above.
  • Experience working internationally, especially in Afghanistan. Regular travel to Afghanistan is required, so applicant is expected to be willing and able to do so.
  • Strong program management skills and ability to manage local partner subcontractors.
  • Strong interpersonal, writing, presentation, and organizational skills are required.
  • Demonstrated problem solving, analytic, financial, and evaluative skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to effectively and efficiently perform multiple tasks and balance competing priorities often within a required timeframe.
  • Advanced degree, such as MPH, a plus.
  • Professional and mature demeanor and conduct.
  • Ability to respond and adapt quickly to changing requirements and competing demands.
  • Fluent written and spoken English is required. Preference will be given to candidates with working proficiency in additional languages.

Physical Demands
  •  Regularly required to stand or sit, and move about the facility; travel to Afghanistan
