Specialization/Skills      
Has excellent knowledge of crop protection and land preparation techniques; Has knowledge of the latest techniques in crop protection and land preparation techniques for rice
Basic purpose    Under the general supervision of the Organizational Unit Head and Manager apply modern agronomic practices to research, seed production and rice production plots on the experiment station. This includes modern land preparation and crop establishment practices, crop protection practices, irrigation and drainage management. It includes the use of precision seeding, pesticide application and harvesting equipment and may include a monitoring program. Work with existing senior staff to improve processes and equipment.

Roles and responsibilities          
3.1. Coordinate closely with Associate Managers and Assistant Managers of the Experiment Station to ensure the application of modern crop protection techniques facilitate effective and efficient land preparation and crop protection
• Assess the crop protection and land preparation techniques used at the Experiment Station and identify areas for improvement
• Help introduce modern crop protection techniques to facilitate quick and efficient land preparation and crop protection;
• Train Experiment Station Technicians in the applications of the new techniques
• Work with technicians to the implement the new techniques and where needed provide suggestions for improvement.
3.2. Coordinate with and support the Associate Managers and Assistant Managers of the Experiment Station to ensure successful crop establishment of research, seed production and production fields by providing advice and monitoring the implementation
3.3. Provide technical support and actively assist to ensure irrigation and drainage management achieves an agreed standard (facilitating land preparation, agreed water depths during the season, timely drainage for harvest, recycling major drainage events)
3.4. Coordinate and work closely with researchers to achieve desired results with precision research equipment and ensure precision research equipment is properly maintained and ready for use;
• Monitor the maintenance, assess the quality of function and facilitate usage of precision research equipment
• Operate the equipment where necessary to maintain field efficiency
• Develop and/or update standard operating procedures
• Train staff on the usage and maintenance of precision research equipment
• Advise OU head on replacement or repair of precision research equipment
3.5. Monitor agronomic status of ES regularly during the season and provide technical advice on how to improve it
• Train staff on agronomic practices as required, either by conducting training or engaging outside providers
3.6. Perform any other duties as assigned by supervisor from time to time

Qualification requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Science, Agricultural Engineering or related field with 5 years in research management or commercial agriculture; or
Master’s degree in Agricultural Science, Agricultural Engineering or related field with 3 years in research management or commercial agriculture
