Job Purpose:

Internship Topic
Do Vulnerable and Low-Income Economies Benefit from Regional Integration?

Summary of Job Description
The potential benefits of trade and regional integration are often attractive to countries that have struggled to engage in the international trading system. However the costs of utilization may be quite high where human capacity and physical infrastructure are limited. This project seeks to understand not only the potential gains, but the actual roadblocks that exist. The study will look empirically at elements such as production network trade, the technological content of intra-regional trade, tariff and non-tariff barriers and the negotiation. The focus will be on Asian economies, however the comparative aspect to other regions will also be considered.
