Client Description:
CARE is an international humanitarian organization fighting global poverty by empowering women and girls. In Cambodia CARE works with the poorest and most marginalised communities to address the root causes of poverty and vulnerability. CARE works in partnership to achieve lasting results.
CARE first began providing relief and development assistance in Cambodia in 1973. Since 1993, CARE Cambodia has worked together with the Royal Government, non-government organisations (NGOs) and private sector partners to support emergency relief, disaster preparedness, health, education and rural development.

CARE Cambodia has a head office located in Phnom Penh and three field offices in Ratanakiri, Prey Veng and Koh Kong Provinces. Programming focuses on the two programs of Marginalised Ethnic Minorities and Poor and Vulnerable Women. Current activities reach communities in 10 provinces and nearly half a million people. CARE Cambodia has 5 international and 121 national staff. Women comprise 38.5% of the total staff and 43% of management positions are filled by women.

Assignment Summary:
The assignment will focus on capacity building national staff, and will contribute to achieving three main goals for CARE in working with our Impact Groups:
  • Improve the situation of marginalised ethnic minorities
  • Reduce rural poverty
  • Increase the empowerment of women
Assignment Outcomes:
  • Value chain analysis conducted for current livelihoods programs. National staff better understand markets and value chains in their work. Contribution to future program development is enhanced;
  • CARE and partners have a high quality training course on business skills development and the capacity to deliver it. Trainees have improved business planning and operating skills.
Experience:
The client has requested a volunteer with the following skills and experience:
  • Qualifications: Bachelor degree in economics, finance, development or related field;
  • Skills: Competent with capacity building methodologies;
  • Experience: At least 4-5 years experience in market or value chain analysis, business operations and capacity development, especially in developing countries;
  • Other: Understanding of gender and development. Previous experience in Southeast Asia is desirable.
