Your task
The doctor works as part of the ICRC hospital teams.
The ICRC hospital teams work either in hospitals built, equipped, supplied and
managed by the ICRC, or in existing hospitals to which the ICRC provides
supplies and equipment, reinforces local personnel and, in some cases, assists
with training. The doctor ensures a quality care as well as organization and
management of services (paediatrics, internal medicine, outpatient, emergency
room and intensive care unit) in close collaboration with her/his local
counterparts.
Functions and responsibilities
- Do
initial and follow up assessment of the services
- Manage
and treat patients and ensure adequate follow-up
- Ensure
rational prescription practices in accordance with valid national and
international protocols/standards
- Ensure
a good supervision and regular follow-up of the activities
- Support
and train local doctors and medical staff
- Apply
and promote hygiene standards and universal precautions in all health
activities
- Prepare
orders for medical supplies and identify new needs, in terms of drugs and
medical equipment, in line with encountered pathologies and guidelines
- Propose
protocols and guideline for medical activities if they do not exist
to the technical referent in Geneva
Contribute to the activity reporting system - Ensure
a regular overview of the context, disease patterns and make proposals for
further development of the services, if necessary.
Selection requirements
- ideal
age: 30 to 60
- prepare
to accept non family postings for the duration of the assignment
- minimum
6 months assignment
- medical
doctor : university degree in Medicine
- valid
registration in the home country
- excellent
command of English and/or French
- minimum
3 years post graduate clinical experience
- good
experience in resource limited settings with other medical organizations
- post
graduate tropical medicine a strong asset
- valid
manual driving licence (automatic not accepted)
