Africa Justice Foundation (AJF) is an international
development charity founded by Cherie Blair QC, Suella Fernandes and Philip
Riches in 2010. AJF’s mission is to build robust, stable, and predictable legal
systems across sub-Saharan Africa. As you will be aware, the Rule of Law
ensures the protection of property rights, guarantees the enforcement of
contracts, enhances business confidence, and facilitates both domestic
re-investment and foreign direct investment. Moreover, effective legislation is
critical in targeting crime and corruption, and safeguarding the independence
of the judiciary so that it can prosecute those responsible for these social
ills.
To support this goal, AJF’s programmes focus on four
pillars: promoting open access to legal information, in Ethiopia; providing
access to justice, in Rwanda and Tanzania; improving the quality of
legislation, in Kenya; and training in commercial skills, across the continent.
Complementing these programmes is our advocacy campaign to promote the Rule of
Law in the post-2015 development agenda, which has been endorsed by the
Business Council for Africa (BCA).
We are now seeking an individual to join the Board of
Trustees and continue driving forward our vision, in particular by providing
strategic leadership in the areas of business development and private sector
fundraising.
