Job Purpose:
To contribute in the analytical support for the management of impaired debt, guarantee, and equity transactions.
Expected Outcomes
Works on all or a combination of the following tasks and/or clearly defined areas under the supervision and guidance from supervisors (International Staff and/or National Staff):
- Assists in monitoring the financial performance of impaired accounts and the implementation of workout strategies.
- Assists in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, or annual problem account memoranda for each impaired transaction.
- Assists in the preparation of quarterly fair value assessments to determine unrealized gains or losses and if applicable provisions, write-downs, write-backs, and write-offs.
- Assists in drafting lessons learned papers and presentations to disseminate workout experience to other units within ADB.
- Contributes in the analysis and processing of waiver, amendment, and consent requests for impaired transactions.
- Assists in the preparation of extended annual reviews.
- Performs other tasks as and when assigned, such as:
- For recently identified impairments, assists in preparing financial forecasts and performing cash flow analysis to determine the debt carrying capacity of borrowers and the return potential for equity investments, participates in due diligence visits, and contributes in the determination , documentation and presentation of courses of action (e.g. sale, restructuring, liquidation, or any combination thereof) to the respective approval authority within ADB.
- Assists line divisions to identify and manage deteriorating accounts before they develop into impaired accounts.
- For unimpaired transactions, assists in the review and evaluation of monitoring reports of transactions, provide support in the review of waiver and amendment requests, contributes in the validation of risk rating of debt and guarantee transactions as well as valuation of equity investments, and assists in the evaluation of exit recommendations.
- Contributes in the analysis of and the preparation of reports and presentations on ADB’s risk exposures. - Provides support to other divisions and units in the Office of Risk Management (ORM) as and when needed.
Educational Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Economics, Finance, Accounting, or other related field; preferably with advanced training.
Relevant Experience And Other Requirements:
Work experience
- At least 5 years experience in major commercial banks or consulting firms prior to joining ADB; preferably in the area of corporate recovery.
Technical knowledge
- Proven ability to undertake background research and analytical work, collect and organize data and information, apply computer skills in analyzing and developing data, and prepare notes, papers and reports.
- Understanding of and hands-on experience with distressed assets and workouts.
- Prior work experience with financial institutions, project finance, and private equity funds would be advantageous.
- Prior work experience with debt, structured, direct equity, and indirect equity transactions would be advantageous
- Familiarity with financial models, risk rating tools, loan pricing instruments, equity valuation models, and developments in the area of risk management.
- Good computer skills with sound knowledge of common word-processing, spreadsheets, power point, graphics software used within ADB, financial modeling and macro.
- Strong analytical and creative problem solving skills.
- Effective report-writing and communication skills in English.
