Basic purpose
The successful candidate will be an IRRI Researcher to
participate in a team of Physiologists contributing to study the physiological
and genetic basis of, and eventually the development of molecular markers for,
for lodging resistance in rice, along with component traits of yield potential
in order to raise the yield ceiling. She/He specializes on the analysis of
plant chemical traits but will also assist in the development and
implementation of experimental protocols and methodologies, collection and
compilation of experimental data and quality control measures in experiments at
IRRI and collaborative sites, including PhilRice. This position is funded by
the SKEP SYGENTA II "Phenotyping and genetic analysis of rice traits for
lodging resistance."
Roles and
responsibilities
- Conduct laboratory analyses of natural anti-oxidants in
rice plant tissue using the ORAC assay (fluorescence spectroscopy on
microplates); and stem chemical composition such as non-structural
carbohydrates, lignin compounds, etc. by near-infra red spectroscopy (NIRS);
and ORAC assay for anti-oxidant activity in fresh rice plant tissue
(fluorescence spectroscopy on microplates)
- Assist in development and implementation of methodology
for studying stem anatomy and morphology using micro-techniques
- Assist in coordinating laboratory activities of the group
- Perform all other related duties that may be assigned by
Supervisor
