Objective: The Research Trainee
programme provides an opportunity for Masters degree holders interested
in making a career of public health research to further their experience
and gain valuable statistical skills.
Programme: The Research Trainee
programme is designed to provide practical, hands-on training and
experience in the field of statistics, biostatistics and epidemiology
relevant to ongoing research projects within Centre for Communicable
Diseases (CCD).
Duty Station – Dhaka
Job Profile
- Participate in an intensive study that will include reading and writing assignments to test and develop analytical and critical thinking skills;
- Develop a study proposal based on either primary or secondary data, or any novel theoretical statistical approach that could lead to development of a scientific manuscript;
- Provide statistical assistance to CCD researchers in developing research protocols and analyzing data for the development of peer-reviewed manuscripts;
- Assist Statistical Unit members to develop training materials and facilitate relevant training courses;
- Provide assistance in data management, data validity checking and codebook preparation to CCD researchers.
Requirements
- Masters degree in Statistics/Applied Statistics/Biostatistics with a good academic record (within 3 years of receiving the degree);
- Must have strong critical thinking skills and an ability to define problems quantitatively;
- Excellent knowledge on multivariate statistical techniques and categorical data analysis skills;
- Ability to understand problems related to data generated using different sampling techniques;
- Independent programming aptitude in any statistical software packages including STATA, R, Splus or SAS;
- Adequate knowledge on statistical conclusion validity;
- Proficiency in written and spoken English and Bangla;
- Experience in manuscript publication would be an added advantage.
Duration: Duration of trainee
programme is initially for a period of two years, extendible for up to
three years depending on satisfactory performance.
Stipend: Monthly stipend amounting
to Tk. 41,500/-only and free transportation to and from the duty
station, subject to Centre’s rules and availability of transport.
Evaluation & Certification:
The trainee will be evaluated after a period of six months. Upon
successful completion of the 2 years training programme and satisfactory
final evaluation, the trainee will be awarded a certificate.
Prospects: After completion of the
programme, the trainee may apply to other suitable positions at
icddr,b. However, such employment is not guaranteed. The selected
trainee will not be eligible for any other trainee programme at icddr,b.
