Location: Philippines
Specialization/Skills
Genetics, Bioinformatics or closely related disciplines
Basic purpose
The successful candidate will identify, validate and deploy
functional markers and sets of diagnostic SNP haplotypes using a
high-throughput genotyping platform to enable more efficient marker-assisted
selection in the breeding programs.
Roles and responsibilities
- Perform a comprehensive evaluation of published literature
and maintain an updated catalog of genetic information for sets of high
priority genes for the breeding programs
- Analyze GWAS, high-resolution SNP and whole genome sequence
data to identify and characterize functional polymorphisms and SNP haplotypes
predictive of the desired alleles at priority loci, in collaboration with trait
development teams at IRRI and research groups at advanced institutes
- Design and test gene-based insertion/deletion and SNP
markers across trait-specific and global germplasm panels to validate the
predicted marker-trait associations
- Help optimize the SNP deployment workflow at IRRI to
enable rapid, high-throughput genotyping of samples from the breeding programs,
including an integrated LIMS and data management pipeline
- Report results through publications in international
scientific journals, project reports, and conferences/seminars
Qualification
Requirements
- PhD in Genetics, Bioinformatics or closely related
disciplines
- Experience in the application of molecular markers in
genetic analysis of populations, skill in DNA sequence analysis, and a working
knowledge of plant genomics
- Fluency in written and oral English
