SNV
is engaged in the aquaculture sector in Vietnam through which we strive
to improve the environmental, economic and social sustainability of
aquaculture production. SNV has formed a consortium with Oxfam Novib,
IUCN VN, IUCN Netherlands and MCD to develop a responsible shrimp
culture improvement program in Vietnam (RSCIP). The first stage of the
project was completed December 31, 2012. Effective from January 1, 2013
we will move into Phase 2 of RSCIP in Vietnam. The overarching aim of
the program is to transform the reputation of Vietnamese shrimp industry
by improving the environmental and social aspects of selected farming
communities in Can Tho province while optimizing the economic potential
for small-scale farmers.
To aid the implementation of the program SNV is now seeking a national Advisor Aquaculture that will provide technical advisory services to this program.
Responsibilities
- Guide and deliver technical aquaculture advisory services for Phase 2 of RSCIP
- Support the design of a qualitative and quantitative study on Shrimp value chain in Can Tho
- Perform farm level gap analysis and identify appropriate certification schemes
- Support the formation of farmer groups
- Support the formation of international market linkages between international and domestic stakeholders
- Lead in the identification, establishment and maintenance of operational contacts with relevant stakeholders (Producers, processors, community leaders and governmental bodies)
- Initiate, plan and lead meetings and assessments at the commune level
- Provide coaching and ToT support to partners on the implementation of program
- Ensure and monitor the progress and quality of program implementation of activities of the program
- As part of the aquaculture team actively participate in SNV strategic positioning meetings and provide input on strategic proposals
- Document and share lessons learned
- Contribute to internal and external knowledge development and support the collective learning of the clients, partners and the aquaculture team
Candidate profile
- Vietnamese citizen
- Academic level of Degree in aquaculture or equivalent, preferred Masters level qualification in Aquaculture.
- Minimum 5 years relevant experience at international private or development organizations.
- Knowledge of aquaculture sector, aquaculture standard and certification processes, commodities’ and special commodities’ market
- Proven capacity of engaging local productive initiatives with international best practices
- Knowledge of the international development field preferred;
- Experience working in a multi-cultural and diverse environment.
- Committed to strengthening an innovative, inspiring and dynamic work-place environment united by conviction to pursue development beyond convention.
- Excellent interpersonal and oral and written communication skills (English and Vietnamese)
- Demonstrated and proven record to work in a multidisciplinary team under changeable and complex circumstances;
- Good computer skills in MS-applications (Word, Excel, Internet, Email, Power Points)
Contract Duration: SNV Vietnam offers a one-year associate consultancy contract and a competitive salary package.
