| OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME : To eradicate Polio from Pakistan through routine and supplementary immunization and high quality Acute Flaccid Paralysis (AFP) surveillance system. In addition, to reduce morbidity of other Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI) target diseases. |

| Description of duties: Purpose of the Post: To provide technical and programme support to the provincial polio eradication activities: AFP, Supplementary Immunization Activities (SIA) and routine EPI. Organizational Context: The incumbent will serve as the Medical Officer responsible and accountable for the work of Polio Eradication Officers serving in his area of responsibility, advising and supervising them and facilitating their work. He/she will make independent decisions on corrective actions necessary to achieve the objective in his/her area of responsibility. He/she reports to the Federal Team Leader. Summary of Assigned Duties: Under the technical guidance of the provincial and federal Polio Eradication Team Leader, and the overall supervision of the WHO Representative, the incumbent will perform the following duties in his area of responsibility: 1. Lead supplementary immunization activities: a. Supervise preparations, implementation and monitoring of supplementary immunization activities including micro-planning, training, supervision and monitoring; b. Timely analysis of data and its use for corrective action; 2. Lead AFP surveillance activities to ensure achievement/maintenance of certification standards: a. Plan and ensure proper implementation of active surveillance and routine reporting; b. Proper training and supervision of surveillance staff; c. Oversee the organization of advocacy/orientation meetings for health care providers; d. Ensuring proper case investigation, follow-up and classification; e. Regular analysis of surveillance data and monitoring indicators; 3. Work with the district and provincial health authorities to coordinate routine immunization activities: a. Develop micro-plans for implementation of Reaching Every District (RED) approach and ensure their proper implementation; b. Coordinate with partners on activities related to routine immunization and ensure community participation; c. Ensure appropriate monitoring and assessment of implementation of the RED approach policy 4. Training and building national capacity in the area of assignment; 5. Liaising with different EPI/PEI (Polio Eradication Initiative) partners and enlisting continued commitment of national local authorities to stated goals; 6. Oversee activities of National Staff recruited by WHO to support Polio eradication activities; 7. Submit monthly reports to reflect progress achieved, constraints and proposed actions. |

| REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS | |
|
Education: University degree in medicine and masters degree in public health (preferably in epidemiology or child health) |

Communicating in a credible and effective way Functional Skills and Knowledge: - In depth knowledge of epidemiology - Ability to process, analyze and interpret epidemiological surveillance data - Familiarity with health problems in the area Other Skills: Competency in Word, Excel, Power Point and familiarity with EPI INFO. |

| Experience: Essential: At least seven years combined experience at national and international levels in programme management, planning and implementation of EPI related activites. Desirable: Experience in NGOs, UN agencies in immunization related areas. |

| Languages: Excellent Knowledge of English. |
