| OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME : 1. To support Member countries in the Region in development and implementation of policies, strategies and operational plans related to Newborn, Child and Adolescent Health (CAH) including development. 2. To develop / strengthen cost effective mechanisms and guidelines for implementation of newborn, child health and adolescent health services. 3. To address priority problems concerning newborn, child and adolescent health and development by providing technical support to implement evidence-based interventions. 4. To promote an integrated approach for implementation of activities related to newborn, child and adolescent health with those of other programmes such as maternal, reproductive health and nutrition, etc. |

| Description of duties: Under the general guidance and supervision of the Director, Family Health and Research (FHR), WHO/SEARO and in close collaboration with the Regional Adviser, Child and Adolescent Health (RA-CAH), the incumbent will carry out the following duties: 1. Provide technical support to the CAH unit in the review, development and implementation of comprehensive child and neonatal health policies and strategies. 2. Facilitate integration of IMCI, infant and young child feeding, newborn care, adolescent health in pre-service training of medical and nursing personnel. 3. Support the adaptation of WHO tools/guidelines for the implementation of integrated management of childhood illness, newborn care, child development and prevention of birth defects in countries. 4. Provide technical assistance on quality improvement process for child and neonatal health services. 5. Provide technical assistance in strengthening linkages between maternal health, adolescent health and nutrition in national programmes and strategies. 6. Perform other relevant duties as may be assigned. |

| REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS | |
|
Education: Essential: Degree in Medicine with postgraduate degree in Paediatrics from a recognized university. Desirable: Training in newborn, child and adolescent health. |

| Skills:
Functional Skills and Knowledge: 1. Sound knowledge of managing child and adolescent health programme in public health settings. 2. Must be systematic and apply critical thinking. 3. Knowledge of proposal development, data analysis, programme planning/ monitoring and evaluation. 4. Must foster positive interactions, good team player and manages work under pressure. Desirable : Knowledge in the area of newborn health. Competencies: 1) Producing results 2) Moving forward in a changing environment 3) Fostering integration and teamwork 4) Communicating in a credible and effective way 5) Building and promoting partnerships across the organization and beyond Other Skills (e.g. IT): Proven competency in information technology, use of personal computers, word processors, spreadsheets and Microsoft Office applications. Good writing skills. |

| Experience: Essential: At least seven years of combined experience at national and international level in Public Health with emphasis on Child and Adolescent Health. Desirable: Working experience in developing countries. Knowledge and experience working within WHO or other UN agencies is an asset. |

| Languages: Excellent knowledge of English. |

| Annual salary:
(Net of tax) US$ 67,483 at single rate US$ 72,467 with primary dependants |
Post Adjustment: % of the above figure(s). This percentage is to be considered as indicative since variations may occur each month either upwards or downwards due to currency exchange rate fluctuations or inflation. |
