Position : Re-advertisement - International Consultant – Gender profile for FATA and Baluchistan
Duty Station : Islamabad, Pakistan
No of days: 40 days (half based in country and half based home)
Type of Contract : SSA – (Short Service Agreement)

1. Background and Purpose:

The United Nations General Assembly voted unanimously on 02 July 2010 to create a new entity to accelerate progress in meeting the needs of women and girls worldwide. The establishment of the UN Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women – known as UN Women – on 1st January 2011, is a result of years of negotiations between UN Member States and advocacy by the global women’s movement.

UN Women’s vision is one where men and women have equal opportunities and capacities, where women are empowered and where the principles of gender equality are firmly embedded in all efforts to advance development, peace and security. UN Women’s fundamental objective is to enhance national capacity and ownership to enable national partners to formulate gender-responsive laws and policies and to scale up successful strategies to deliver on national commitments to gender equality.

To meet this objective, UN Women will centre its work around 5 core principles:
1. providing demand-driven support to national partners to enhance implementation of international agreements and standards;
2. supporting intergovernmental processes to strengthen the global normative and policy framework on gender equality;
3. advocating for gender equality and women’s empowerment, championing the rights of women and girls – particularly those who are most excluded;
4. leading and promoting coherence in UN system work on gender equality; and
5. acting as a global broker of knowledge and experience, aligning practice with normative guidance

UN Women Pakistan provides technical assistance and support to innovative approaches aimed at fostering women’s empowerment and the gender equality agenda in Pakistan. UN Women is uniquely positioned to support initiatives of the government and non governmental organizations leading towards a full realization of gender equality and women’s empowerment commitments in 2

line with the national and international gender equality and human rights commitments such as, amongst others, the Constitution, National Action Plan for Women’s Empowerment as well as the Beijing Platform for Action, CEDAW, Millennium Declaration and the Millennium Development Goals. 


Tasks and Responsibilities:
Under the overall guidance of UN Women’s Country Programme Director (CPD) and in close coordination with the programme team, the international consultant will be responsible
·         To take cognizance of the disaggregated data collected for FATA and Balochistan in the areas of education, leadership, decision making and governance, economy, poverty and vulnerability, employment, and previous research and sectoral anaylsis to finalize the gender profiles for FATA and Balochistan.
·         Advise the CPD on an appropriate dissemination strategy
·         Advise the CPD on priority issues in FATA and Balochistan and possible entry points
·         Carry out any other duties and/or responsibilities assigned by the Country Programme Director

Deliverables:
·         Completed Gender profile FATA encompassing all sectors mentioned above
·         Completed Gender profile Balochistan encompassing all sectors mentioned above

Requirements, Qualifications, and Experience:
·         Minimum ten years experience working on similar assignments
·         Bachelors degree in social sciences – focus on gender equality issues considered an asset
·         Experience in communication and writing assignments in English
·         Previous experience of work in Pakistan with specific attention to FATA

Duty Station: Islamabad(20 days) and home based(20 days) depending on the actual work requirement during the duration of the contract
Travel:- Cost of 1 economy class ticket from the home station of the consultant to Islamabad and back will be borne by UN Women.
