About Global Platforms The fundamental aim of the Global Platforms (GP) is to empower young people to create positive social change. The GPs are founded on experiential and participatory learning techniques that have evolved from the Danish folk high school system and ActionAid Denmark’s (AADK) focus on empowerment and social change. The GPs are a natural extension of AADK’s strong experience providing formal and non-formal training using participatory methods in high, middle and low income countries. The first GPs were in Tanzania and Denmark in 2009, but have since grown to include the MENA region (trainings have been conducted in Jordan, Egypt, Lebanon and Syria), El Salvador/Nicaragua, Nepal, Myanmar and Kenya (Nanyuki and Nairobi). AADK will expand the scale of the GPs with feasibility assessments planned for Asia, South America, West Africa and the USA. The GPs create social change through training, capacity support, mentoring, networking, cultural exchange and incubation of young people with innovative ideas. And through supporting ActionAid (AA) staff and partners to access new thinking and approaches to facilitating social change within their programmes. The training element is central to the work and the outreach of the Global Platforms, however, the GPs are more than just youth training centres, they are spaces for innovation, incubation, creativity, solidarity, cultural exchange and growth in a myriad of ways.
