For ISH-11 – Improved Environmental and Socio-Economic Baseline Information for Hydropower Planning

Contract Type: Service Contract
Duration of service: 40 working days from June 2013- November 2013
Work Location: Office of the MRC Secretariat in Vientiane, Lao PDR with possible travel to the MRC Member Countries
Division/Section: Initiative for Sustainable Hydropower (ISH), Planning Division
Key Responsibilities:
  • Ascertain the major material, timing and logistical requirements for the survey including boats, accommodation, catering, scientific equipment, ports, likely associated events (e.g. public events at major cities), etc.;
  • Investigate costs and availability of the major requirements, and any impediments or practical issues that require resolution;
  • Attend the ISH11 Workshops in July and October 2013;
  • Propose a logistics plan, with costs, timing, necessary personnel and supporting resource requirements for inclusion in the Phase 2 Report of the ISH11 team.
Qualifications/Requirements:
  • 5 years professional experience in project assistance, project management and logistics arrangement in the Mekong region (preferably) or an equivalent environment;
  • Suitable qualification in project management or technical and scientific fields related to the subject of this ISH11 study;
  • An excellent organiser with experience in arranging complex project related support including, travel into remote areas, transportation of equipment and personnel, risk and safety management, health support, transporting of samples to laboratory, river based transport (boats) and;
  • Ability to speak at least one of the MRC member country languages as a distinct advantage;
  • Demonstrated understanding of the complexity of these type of projects and the budget management associated with them;
  • Good contacts/network in the MRC member countries especially in the National Mekong Committees and National line agencies involved in this study;
  • Skills in Microsoft Office especially Excel, Word and preferably MS Project;
  • Excellent communication skills in written and verbal English.
