Basic purpose The successful candidate will support the work of the Agronomy Extension Specialists on the development of the IRRI Rice Doctor and IRRI-RKB. She/He will be under the supervision of the Organizational Unit head. She/He will organize and develop contents for the Rice Doctor. She/He will collect data and test the Rice Pest and Disease diagnostics key with stakeholders.
Roles and responsibilities - Research internal and external rice production information sources and triangulate content with institutional messages verified by IRRI scientists
- Translate scientific writing into understandable language for farmer and extension audience
- Organize and edit content in a way that intuitive, understandable, and actionable to our target audience
- Create web content for Rice Knowlede Bank including but not the following: weeds, pests, diseases, water, nutrients, seed production, varieties, land rep, planting, harvest, drying, storage, milling, rice quality, marketing, step-by-step rice production, namgement guides (material will be created in several text formats including web,HTML5, short message, fact sheets brochures, powepoints, poesters, video, audio, script writing)
- Create content for Rice DOctor output page including but not limited to the following: diagnostics results of crop health problems (insects, fungal/bacteria/viral disease, nematodes, weeds, nutrients, mollusks, mangement issues, and other pests relating to fact sheets on RKB), possible management recommendations, future prevention
- Identify graphics pictures, recordings, video or other digital assets that can be distributed by hypertxt markup language (HTML)
- Research and dapt web tools for rice farmers such as: financial calculators, harvesting loss assessment calculator, budgeting and recording tools, digital crop calendars
- Create database that features content in different formats so that the consistency of messages maintained
- Develop data for rice pest and disease diganostics tool by extracting content from existing factsheets and reformatting it
- Work together with RKB IT and graphic design team as well as the IRRI.org and RicePedia teams on content standards to ensure consistent institutional message is upheld at all times
- Communicate with extension and farmers on the accessibility and understandibility of the information to promote a user-centered product and delivery system
- Attend field trips to farmer villages around Laguna or possibly further
- Support the organization of trials of rice pest and diseases diagnostics key to its comprehensiveness ans user-friendliness
- Support the collection and interpretation of data from trialing the diagnostics key with users outside IRRI
- Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor from time to time


Qualification requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Agronomy, Plant Pathology or Development Communications or related field
- Minimum of 2 years related work experience
- Has strong organizational and time management skills
- Has strong written and oral communication skills
