Economic Analysis and Operations Support Division, Economics and Research Department

Job Purpose:

Identify, design, and undertake analytical work and Technical Assistance (TA) projects in the field of the economics of climate change (involving climate-resilient and low carbon growth), environment and natural resources, and sustainable development, and that are relevant to Developing Member Countries (DMCs) and strategic directions of Asian Development Bank (ADB). Conduct collaborative research/activities and share knowledge with specialists and audience across disciplines, within as well as outside ADB. Contribute to the preparation and dissemination of ERD’s research outputs and publications, and support relevant ADB operations. Work within broad policies and objectives with supervision for critical tasks.

Expected Outcomes

a. Economic Research Work
  • Undertake research and TA projects related to economics of climate change (involving climate-resilient and low carbon growth), environment and natural resources, and sustainable development.
  • Provide analytical support in the areas of research expertise.
  • Work independently and in research teams to produce high-quality knowledge products.
  • Support Management on the direction of ERD's research work and activities in the above field.
b. Knowledge Management and Sharing
  • Conduct collaborative research/activities and share knowledge with specialists and audience across disciplines, within as well as outside ADB.
  • Contribute to the preparation and dissemination of ERD’s research outputs and publications
  • Participate in and contribute to relevant internal and external training and conferences and other activities for advocacy, dissemination and knowledge building.
c. Operations Support
- Provide knowledge and technical support to operations of other ADB departments, particularly those related to climate change and environment.
- Support economic analysis of projects, particularly those classified under the themes of climate change, clean energy, and low carbon development
c. Staff Supervision
  • Provide leadership and support to reporting staff
  • Supervise the performance of reporting staff, providing clear direction and regular monitoring and feedback on performance
  • Ensure the on-going learning and development of reporting staff.

Educational Requirements:

Doctorate degree, or equivalent, in Economics or related fields with specialization in Climate Change, Natural Resources and Environment; development economics. Master’s degree in Economics, combined with specialized experience in similar organization/s, may be considered in lieu of a Doctorate degree.

Relevant Experience And Other Requirements:

  • Suitability to undertake the responsibilities mentioned above at the required level.
  • At least 6 years of relevant professional experience in economic research.
  • Evidence of high quality research output and track record of high quality publications.
  • Strong quantitative, analytical, and conceptual skills in economics.
  • Demonstrated expertise in economic research and development in developing countries.
  • Good understanding of ADB's institutional context, strategies, priorities, and objectives.
  • Good interpersonal skills to interact with a variety of ADB stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
  • International experience working in several countries.
