Specialization/Skills Agronomy or other related fields
Basic purpose The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the experimental and laboratory of the Ecophysiology Team at IRRI, for conducting ecophysiology experiments at IRRI on rice crop development and growth under aerobic soil conditions targeting the needs of farmers in coping future rice grown under less water environments, for monitoring experiments on the same theme done by NARES collaborators and for training them on rice ecophysiology and especially crop development protocols. Requires expertise in ecophysiology and crop management and good skills in team management and operation planning. She/He will conduct experiments including collaborative studies with colleagues within and outside IRRI; develops research protocols and supervise/manage researches on rice ecophysiology, analyse the results and prepare publication in international journals and meetings; coordinates with all staff levels within the group and among other research staff in IRRI external collaborative research projects; assists NARES partners in building ecophysiology capacities and facilitate data sharing and analysis with partners.
Roles and responsibilities - Manage and supervise the overall scheduling, preparation, establishment, maintenance of field and greenhouse experiments of the ecophysiology group
- Coordinate with other research teams to facilitate the exchange of research resources/equipments and protocols for efficient implementation of activities and data collection
- Develop new and/or update existing research protocols and strategies to facilitate the management of simultaneous experiments with increased efficiency and accuracy
- Determine and manage resources and research facilities to ensure efficient utilization and accurate flow of activities
- Design and manage specific experiments related with the on-going researches of the Ecophysiology Team, currently dealing with the effect of aerobic soil conditions on the phenotypic development and growth of rice plants
- Write papers based on the results of these specific experiments for publication in referred journals and presentation at local and international meetings, conferences, workshops
- Involve in developing new protocols to address issues and constraints in growing rice under aerobic conditions, in further research areas, including applications for breeding activities and crop management strategies by addressing interacting factors of population density, genotypes, soil nutrients and agronomic practices as they interact with plant development
- Collaborate with the IRRI researchers and especially, the ecophysiologist, agronomists, crop modelers to share data and knowledge on plant development to improve plant growth modules component and plant breeders to evaluate plant traits relevantto adaption and higher yield under aerobic environments
- Participate in group meetings related to aerobic and direct seeding researches
- Visit NARES sites to share knowledge, contribute to the development of a coordinated network on the ecophysiology of rice development under aerobic conditions with researchers from Asian Institutes, then participate to the implementation of the activities and their monitoring
- Provide leadership in training and assistance to other researchers, scholars and interns with regards to plant physiological measurements
- Provide trainings to NARES collaborators for the execution of experiments addressing objectives on aerobic environments

Qualification Requirements:
