Basic purpose The successful candidate will be primarily responsible for planning, executing and managing the irrigated observational and replicated yield trials. She/He will also be involved in the overall coordination of breeding nurseries including specific nurseries for AWD and direct seeding and coordinating the preparation and dissemination of requested germplasm for regional and overseas partners including IRRI hubs and the HRDC. She/He will also be involved with cross-cutting PBGB activities and be a member of important departmental committees and will provide representation of IRRI at Rice Varietal Improvement Group meetings in the Philippines.
Roles and responsibilities - Responsible for planning, execution, management, harvesting and data of field trials for the irrigated breeding program
- Oversee irrigated breeding nurseries and establish new breeding nurseries based on product profiles including super earliness, alternate wetting and drying (AWD), direct seeding and physiological traits for increasing yield potential
- Lead person responsible for germplasm distributions from internal and external requests, responsible for screening of disease, insect, abiotic stress tolerances and grain quality tests of advanced breeding lines
- Responsible for PBGB division activities including cross-cutting breeding support teams especially crossing program, safety committees and quality assurance
- To perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor


Qualification Requirements:


- MS in Plant Breeding/Agronomy or related discipline
- At least 10 years of experience in managing and conducting field trials and breeding nurseries
- Good knowledge in plant breeding, field trials, seed multiplication, data base management, use of portable data collectors and National Coordinated Trial (NCT) system in the Philippines
