REDD+ Energy & Agriculture Program Coordinator Commodities and Climate Change
Based in Jakarta, Indonesia or Hochiminh city, Vietnam with frequent travel
(International associate consultancy contract)

SNV is committed to reducing poverty by catalyzing environmentally sustainable solutions for the poor in agriculture, energy, water & sanitation, and REDD+ (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation).

Agriculture and energy use are major drivers of deforestation and forest degradation. In order to tackle these drivers requires the introduction of improved agricultural practices and renewable energy solutions. SNV will launch the REDD+ Energy and Agriculture Program (REAP) in 2013 in order to advance understanding on the interface between agriculture and energy use across different forest landscapes and to introduce contextualised solutions in order to bring about reduced emissions, forest protection and improved livelihoods.

We will engage in a number of critical agricultural sectors, which are major drivers of deforestation; such as palm oil, shrimp aquaculture, coffee etc. We are looking for a highly qualified candidate to fill in the post of REAP Coordinator Commodities and Climate Change, who will be responsible for designing and introducing SNV program on Commodities and Climate Change.

Responsibilities
  • Work closely with the SNV REDD+ Global Coordinator to develop and introduce the Commodity and Climate Change Program across SNV
  • Determine focus of and overall strategy for the program with a focus on Indonesia and Central/West Africa
  • Oversee and support consultants in development of knowledge products and assessments, including integration of REDD+ and monitoring guidelines into commodity value chains
  • Develop partnerships with key government, the private sector, INGO and local organisations; as well as regional initiative convening platforms on the commodities of interest
  • Support pilot smallholder pilot models
  • Convene meetings with private sector and commodity companies to seek partnerships and demonstration activities for up-scaling
  • Resource mobilisation through designing projects and seeking donors for support for scaling up the program
Candidate profile
  • Master degree in agriculture and/or agricultural development/ and/or rural development
  • Detailed knowledge of agriculture supply chains and sustainable agriculture practices (likely sectors of most interest: palm oil, coffee, cocoa and shrimp aquaculture)
  • Sound knowledge of natural resource management, forest protection and carbon accounting
  • Experience with agricultural certification standards would be advantageous
  • Experience in of working in Indonesia; West and Central Africa would be advantageous
  • Experience in research, quantitative analysis and preparation of technical documents.
  • Track record in partnership building and resource mobilization
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills in English
Information on duty station (both Jakarta and Hochiminh)
Medical facilities:There are several international standard healthcare facilities in Jakarta and Hochiminh.
Educational facilities: There are international schooling systems up to IB level in English and French in Jakarta and Hochiminh.

Security situation: The security situation in Indonesia and Vietnam is generally good through most of the country however caution should be excercised.

Accessibility: Daily flights.

Contract Duration: One-year competitive associate consultancy contract with possibility of extension.

Desire starting date: March/April 2013
