Forestry and livelihoods development experts to Lao PDR - NIRAS

Project Description
Government of Finland has been engaged in the development of forestry sector in Lao PDR for almost two decades and the cooperation will continue during 2013-2016. The new phase will start early 2013 and the Technical Assistance element will be again financed by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Finland.


The new project will be based on the foundation laid by Sustainable Forestry for Rural Development Project (SUFORD) which has been jointly financed by the World Bank and MFA/Finland during 2003-2012. It is envisaged that the new project will continue to aim at reducing poverty among rural communities by institutionalizing participatory sustainable management of production forests, developing village forestry and livelihoods, and supporting forest law enforcement and governance in Lao PDR.

Qualifications and skills
  • Bachelors degree in relevant field
  • Relevant working experience in South East Asia
  • Fluency in written and spoken English
  • Good communication skills
Professional experience
Working experience in addressing any of the following fields:
  • participatory forest planning and management
  • forest  law enforcement and governance
  • forest monitoring systems and certification
  • GIS and remote sensing
  • payment of environmental services
  • village level livelihoods development
  • gender and ethnic participation issues.
