Assistant Scientist - Agronomy (PRS-2012-221-DJ) - International Rice Research Institute - Myanmar

Basic purpose
The successful candidate will assist in collection of data on climate, soils and crop performance and implementing farmer-participatory research on cropping options to increase and sustain productivity of rice-based cropping systems, this will include assistance with establishing and monitoring field experiments on natural resource management of rice, the evaluation of new rice varieties and in supporting training courses. She/He will be located in Yangon, Myanmar, there will be extended periods of field work in Ayeyarwady Region and Central Dry Zone. She/He will work closely with other IRRI project staff and actively team up with others in the project.
Roles and responsibilities - Responsible for data collection and running of trials, maintenance of field validation of natural resource management activities in Ayeyarwady Region and Central Dry Zone. Assist with data gathering and processing
- Assist in the coordination and running of training courses on natural resource management
- Assist with farmer meetings to review progress of trials and to assist farmers to adopt new practices
- Effective collaboration with local Department of Agriculture staff, Department of Agriculture Research staff and NGO partners
- Perform all other related duties that may be assigned from time to time by the Supervisor


Qualification Requirements:


- MS in Agronomy or related fields
- Four (4) years relevant experience in crop science field research and training
- Good oral and written communication in English; Ability ro speak in the Myanmar language
