Background Information - APO

Asia and the Pacific Regional Office
The Asia and the Pacific Regional Office is based in Bangkok, Thailand, and was established in 1995 to bring UNOPS closer to partners in the region. The regional office provides implementation support and project management services to operations throughout the region, supplying financial oversight of projects, procuring goods and services, and managing human resources. It helps ensure that projects are executed to the highest standards, ensuring that best practices and lessons learned are shared within the region and beyond.
Background Information - Job-specific

Under the overall guidance of the Regional Programme Development Officer (RPDO), the Graphic Designer / Desktop Publisher is responsible for supporting the Business Development and Communications Unit in the areas of graphic design and desktop publishing.  This contribution will largely entail designing graphics and laying out documents (e.g. project proposals, UNOPS capacity statements and other communications material), developing and maintaining image and graphic libraries, and preparing communication materials for digital/online distribution and printing.

The incumbent works in the Bangkok Cluster and reports to the RPDO. In performing her/his responsibilities, s/he works closely with the RPDO, other interns in the Bangkok Cluster, the Communications Unit and project development specialists in UNOPS Operations and Project Centres throughout Asia and the Pacific.

The incumbent must abide by security policies, administrative instructions, plans and procedures of the UN Security Management System and that of UNOPS. UNOPS is committed to achieving a truly diverse workforce.
Functional Responsibilities

Below are some of the functionalities.

Specific intern responsibilities include, but are not limited to:    

  • Designing and laying out materials in InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator,  MS Word, and PowerPoint
  • Producing clear, concise and vivid materials that convey key messages to target audiences.
  • Image management, including research and organization of the UNOPS photo library.
  • Liaising with regional and country offices to design products tailored to specific audiences.
  • Preparing materials for printing, coordinating with printers and advising on print solutions to offices in the UNOPS global network.
  • assist in the publication of online materials and support the design and development of the intranet;
  • To perform certain administrative tasks such as mailing materials produced by the Business Development Unit APO
  • Reporting to and performing other duties as required by the the Regional Programme Development Officer.
  • identification of marketing/communications material requirements for APO; formatting and style editing of project deliverables; and design, implementation, maintenance and periodic updating of APO intranet.

Education/Experience/Language requirements


  • University degree in Fine Arts, Graphic Design or related subjects.              
  • At least one (1) year of experience in graphic design and/or desktop publishing is required.
