Education Specialist (Child Friendly Schools) - UNICEF - Kabul, Afghanistan

Purpose of the Position
Under the general supervision of the Chief of Education, the Education Specialist will perform the following responsibilities in support of UNICEF's commitment to Child Friendly Schools (CFS).


Key Expected Results
1. Compile data and background information for schools where child Friendly will be implemented. Identified activities, planned and implement. Support provinces, zones and districts in implementing CFS.
2. Provide guidance and build capacity on CFS to education specialist, teacher training and education officer curriculum. (Work as a cluster for CFS.)Liaise with other education section staff to ensure that CFS is in corporate in all aspects of the programme.
3. Undertakes field visits to schools and implement observations as required in collaboration with zones, provinces and districts.
4. Develop the CFS package and insure implementation in schools that will be identified.
5. Ensure timely procurement of supplies for CFSs. Monitor distribution and use.
6. Finalize, design and guidelines of the children friendly schools (CFS) concepts in Afghanistan context in collaboration with MoE and other education partners. Communicates with counterpart local authorities on project details. Recommends courses of action to the supervisor.
7. Prepare programme reports, funding proposals, participate in Mid- Year and End- Year reviews and other consultative meetings.
8. Organize participatory process and event for monitoring, evaluation and planning both for CFS as girls' acceleration community plans. Check the efficiency distribution and use of supplies when appropriate.

Qualifications of Successful Candidate
Advanced University degree in Social Sciences, or a technical field related to education and the work of UNICEF. *A first university degree with a relevant combination of academic qualifications and experience may be accepted in lieu of advanced university degree.* Minimum of 8 years of professional work experience in work related to child friendly schools, preferably with UNICEF or any other international organization. Fluency in English and other UN language required. Knowledge of the local working language of the duty station is an asset.

Remarks
Post is office-based, with frequent travel to project sites.
