Macroeconomics and Finance Research Division, Economics and Research Department

Job Purpose:

Join economic research teams preparing macroeconomic analytical work on policy-relevant issues of strategic interest to Asian Development Bank (ADB) and its member countries. Undertake collaborative macroeconomic research with specialists within ADB and with external researchers. Contribute substantially to the preparation and dissemination of research outputs and publications, including ADB’s flagship publication, the Asian Development Outlook (ADO) and its Update. Work within broad policies and objectives with supervision for critical tasks.

Expected Outcomes

Economic Research Work
- Participate in teams preparing the ADO and its Update.
- Pursue a research agenda in macroeconomics (for example, the analysis of economic growth; macroeconomic stability; fiscal, monetary, or exchange rate policies; international trade and capital flows).
- Provide analytical support in the areas of research expertise.
- Work independently and in research teams to produce high-quality research papers.
- Undertake collaborative research with specialists in a global network of knowledge institutions and within other ADB knowledge departments.

Knowledge Management
- Support Management dialogue with ADB clients on macroeconomic topics related to ERD's research work and the ADO.
- Contribute to the dissemination of ERD’s research work and the ADO.
- Participate in and contribute to relevant internal and external training and conferences and other activities for advocacy, dissemination and knowledge building.

Staff Supervision
- Provide leadership and support to reporting staff.
- Supervise the performance of reporting staff, providing clear direction and regular monitoring and feedback on performance.
- Ensure the on-going learning and development of reporting staff.

Educational Requirements:

Doctoral degree, or equivalent, in Economics or related fields with specialization in macroeconomics. Master’s degree in Economics, combined with specialized experience in similar organization/s, may be considered in lieu of a Doctoral degree.

Relevant Experience And Other Requirements:

Work Experience
- At least 8 years of relevant professional experience in economic research.
- International experience working in several countries.
Technical Knowledge
- Evidence of high quality research output and track record of high quality publications in international peer-reviewed professional journals.
- Strong quantitative, analytical, and conceptual skills in economics.
- Demonstrated expertise in economic research and development in developing countries.
- Good understanding of ADB's institutional context, strategies, priorities, and objectives.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.

People and Leadership Skills
- Good interpersonal skills to interact with a variety of ADB stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary teams.
- Able to mentor National Staff (NS) and Administrative Staff (AS) to facilitate on-time delivery of quality research work.
