Associate Economics and Statistics Analyst - Manila, Philippines

Job Purpose:

To provide technical and administrative support in the maintenance of the statistical database system (SDBS); to prepare statistical tables for statistical publications and reports; to assist in the conduct of data analysis and economic research; and to support the administration of statistical capacity building projects in developing member countries (DMCs).


Expected Outcomes

Work independently on all or a combination of the following transactions and/or clearly defined areas, depending on the assignment/instructions from supervisors (International Staff and/or senior National Staff):

Statistics Database Management
- Maintains and updates the SDBS database and preserves its reliability by employing data gathered from official correspondence from statistical contacts in the DMCs, statistical publications, electronic databases from other international organizations and other sources.


Statistical Publication/Report Preparation
  • Generates and/or constructs statistical tables and documents, as well as edits and proofreads the documents, to support the timely completion and accurate preparation of statistical publications/reports.
  • Contributes in data gathering and consolidation, deriving estimates for other ADB documents and publications, reviewing reports and other papers to verify the accuracy, consistency, relevance and presentation of statistical information
Economic/Statistical Analysis
  • Compiles and assimilates data from different sources into an analysis-ready format to support the efficient conduct of statistical research.
  • Performs econometric/statistical analysis using various methods and statistical software.
Technical Assistance
  • Assists supervisors in the administration of technical assistance (statistical capacity building projects) to ADB's DMCs.
Others
  • Liaises with country desk officers, economists, consultants and other relevant stakeholders within and outside ADB.
  • Performs other tasks as assigned and reflected in the incumbent’s workplan.

Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Economics, or a related field

Relevant Experience And Other Requirements:

Work experience
- At least 5 years of relevant professional experience.

Technical knowledge
  • Proven ability to work independently on assigned transactions, areas of analysis and research, which have well-defined scope and steps
  • Able to conduct cost-benefit analysis to support decision-making
  • Able to set priorities for self and junior team members
  • Effective report-writing and communication skills in English and the national language (as required)
  • Proficient in spreadsheets and required information technologies.

- Able to provide guidance to other AS staff on assigned area of work
- Able to liaise and work effectively with government officials within own work location and with colleagues throughout ADB
