Human Resources Talent & Development Officer - Medair HQ, Lausanne, Switzerland

Jointly develop and implement Medair’s global training and development strategy and plans. Jointly develop and implement Medair’s global talent management approach. Contribute to the development and leadership of the HR Department who are charged with attracting and retaining a workforce able to fully deliver Medair’s mission of relieving human suffering.

Project Overview
Medair Headquarters (HQ) provides operational guidance for country programmes and activities, along with both technical and compassionate support for our relief workers. Within our headquarters, we are also responsible for promoting the work of Medair to the world, to raise and manage the funds needed to run our life-saving and sustaining programmes. Our headquarters teams are also responsible for recruiting international and HQ staff, and like our field teams, we are committed to serve the world’s most vulnerable with practical and compassionate care.

Key Activity Areas
Training and Development
  • Systematic and consistent articulation of job competency requirements (both soft and technical competencies and appropriately segmented e.g. Knowledge, Skill, and Approach.
  • Robust analysis of staff competency gaps against articulated job requirements.
  • Market analysis of which competencies are best recruited from the external labour market and which are best developed within Medair – leading to agreed resourcing and development strategies for required job positions.
  • Lead agreement of prioritisation of gap closure into agreed timetable with people and budget allocation.
  • Internal development and external sourcing of learning and development interventions to close required gaps.
  • Construction and delivery of priority development interventions (some delivery by job holder).
  • Evaluation of intervention effectiveness.
  • Coordination of Medair’s training and development agenda leading to maximised resource utilisation.
  • Management of Medair’s training and development global budget.

Talent Management
  • Implement Medair’s talent management approach.
  • Maximise the retention and re-utilisation of able staff into Medair’s operation.
  • Implement and oversee the use of a formal talent database.
  • Lead the HR team in implementing a fast-track senior international staff recruitment process.
  • Enable Medair to minimise key roles and succession risk.
  • Oversee the process utilisation of Medair’s new performance and talent management approach.

Qualifications
  • University degree in relevant subject or equivalent professional qualification or experience
  • Human Resources / training and development qualification desirable

Languages
  • Strong working knowledge of English (spoken and written)
  • Ability to speak, or willingness to learn French desirable

Experience / Competencies
  • 2-3 years of relevant professional experience in training and development / talent management
  • Previous experience working in a cross-cultural setting, preferable in the HR sector
  • Modelling of Medair’s values; strong leadership skills; consultative management style
  • Accountable decision maker; strong organisational and time management skills
  • Coaching and training skills; empowering, accountable, mature, problem solver
  • Good understanding of cross-cultural issues; diplomacy in interactions with local authorities
  • Able to cope with basic living conditions during field trips

  • At least one year of professional experience in a relevant field (more experience preferred)
  • Strong working knowledge of English (spoken and written)
  • Working knowledge of French (spoken and written) for French-speaking roles
  • Competent with MS Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Motivated by a spirit of service
  • Solid team player
