Project Manager I

We are currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of Project Manager I, in the Bangkok, Thailand office.


Position Description:
Under supervision of Global Research and Services (GRS), the Project Manager will provide day-to-day project management of the department’s sponsored research administered by the Asia country offices.  With a reporting line to the Headquarters Office in Durham, North Carolina, this position is based operationally in Bangkok, Thailand.
The Project Manager will work with staff to ensure the planning, execution and finalization of projects according to the contracted scope of work, budget and timelines.  Will assess resources and coordinate efforts of team members in order to deliver projects according to plan.  The Project Manager will ensure that project objectives are managed and defined and that quality is maintained throughout the completion of the project life cycle.  Will provide guidance and monitoring for project staff, ensuring clarity over project plans and priorities and encouraging effective team work.

Job responsibilities
  • Manage and oversee the development of projects from pre-implementation  to completion.
  • Participate in pre-project implementation planning including support to GRS research proposals.
  • Manage project staff in coordinating and managing the implementation of project activities, delivering quality and accountability.
  • Provide guidance and monitoring for project staff, ensuring clarity over project plans and priorities and encouraging effective team work.
  • Develop and deliver project plans, documentation, training, presentations and budget information to management and staff.
  • Identify and resolve project issues and implement improvement plans to ensure that project stays on schedule and within budget and scope.
  • Monitor the quality of work performed by FHI 360 GRS staff in the Asia Pacific region and implement improvement and corrective programs as needed.
  • Build, develop, and grow partnerships vital to the success of the project and potential follow-on work.
  • Ensure that study progress (technical and financial) is tracked and updated regularly in relevant systems. 
  • Ensure that monthly reviews and reports accurately reflect study activities and progress.
  • Promote a positive culture of high performance, customer service, continuous improvement, two-way communication, and teamwork.
  • Coach, mentor, and manage project leaders and other FHI 360 staff to ensure quality, efficiency and compliance with sponsor and company standards/policies.
  • Coordinate project plans, budgets, training and resources with management to achieve strategic goals.
Minimum Requirements:
 Bachelor’s degree or its international equivalent in public health, medicine, project management, or a related field and 5-8 years of project management experience in international settings, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience sufficient to successfully perform the key responsibilities of the job.   
  • Extensive knowledge of and experience with concepts, practices, and procedures pertinent to project management.
  • Demonstrated initiative and leadership skills.
  • Experience managing and reporting on donor and industry-funded programs.
  • Ability to work well with others and to communicate in a clear, positive manner.
  • Must be able to read, write and speak fluent English.
  • Ability to influence, motivate and collaborate with others.
  • Ability to travel (25-50%) domestically and internationally, if needed, at short notice.
  • Extensive knowledge of planning, management and implementation of sponsored research studies.
  • Sensitivity to cultural differences across countries and understanding of socio-economic and political situations in various regions.
  • Capacity to perform independently, manage high-volume work flow, resolve complex issues, and work well with others to develop and maintain compatibility among staff and team members.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills.
  • Competence with relevant technology, including personal computer, Microsoft Office software (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.), e-mail, telephone, printer, calculator, copier, and cell phone.
  • Ability to function in a typical office environment (sitting and standing for extended periods of time); ability to lift 5-50 lbs.
