Media Manager with Communication & Development under the Office of the Executive Director (Re-Advertisement #210/13)

icddr,b invites applications from suitable candidates for the position of Media Manager with Communication & Development under the Office of the Executive Director. The appointment will be made on a fixed-term basis for 2 years, which is renewable depending on performance and availability of funds.


Duty station – Dhaka
Salary – Annual Tk.1,052,500/- inclusive of house rent and conveyance allowances with other admissible benefits.
Benefits/facilities – 14.8% retirement fund contribution by icddr,b, children allowance @Tk.1,420/- per child per month, medical facilities for dependent spouse and children, group life insurance. Subsidized canteen, transport and daycare facilities subject to availability.

Job Profile 
  • Develop Media Strategies: Under the guidance of Senior Manager, Communications, identify media strategies and the most effective forms of delivery and presentation of key messages, using a range of communication strategies including printed materials, media liaison and knowledge sharing events; Identify credible evidence and key messages for a range of defined target audiences in order to meet the demand of strategic goals of the Communications and Development Services.
  • Develop and Strengthen Media Relations: Develop strong network with print and electronic media at local and international level; Coordinate events/orientation programmes with the media; Act as a primary contact with media agencies and maintain a contacts database of electronic, print and other media including media planning and scheduling; Facilitate media visits to icddr,b and its field sites. Assist Sr. Manager Communications in providing appropriate messages to the media accurately portraying icddr,b's activites and services; prepare first drafts of press releases/briefs/media kits, etc; Develop and coordinate integrated programmes across communications disciplines and deliver excellent executions through icddr,b media channels in order to maintain a progressively strong media relations.
  • Develop and Publish Communication Materials: Develop communication materials for media outlets  and establish appropriate distribution systems i.e. news and feature articles, press releases, website content, fact sheets, newsletters, etc; Monitor timely production of the weekly web news, monthly web feature, and also contribute to publications such as quarterly external newsletter Glimpse, bi-annual health and donor publications, the Annual Report, etc; Prepare final draft of contents for editing and coordinate photos and captioning for publication process in order to ensure publishing effective communication materials for media consumption.
  • Liaise with icddr,b Scientific Community, Collaborators and Donors: Liaise closely with icddr,b’s scientific community and contribute in maintaining the positive public profile of icddr,b by providing assistance to icddr,b management/scientific community on how best to promote research outputs in various media outlets; Foster productive relationships with collaborators, creative groups, internal brand teams and cross-functional partners, as well as representatives from key media outlets in order to establish a strong collaboration amongst the icddr,b, the media and other stakeholders.
  • Ensure icddr,b Branding Compliance: Work collaboratively with the icddr,b research and non-research centres to execute icddr,b brand strategies consistent with the determined communications standard guidelines in conducting media deliveries; Collaborate with cross-functional teams so that at the time of developing new materials they are following the process, including analyzing information to help set the  quality standards of write-ups to be disseminated to the media in order to maintain compliance with ongoing branding commitments of icddr,b and specific communications requirements of donors.
Requirements:
  • Masters in Mass Communication/Journalism/Public Health/Development Studies;
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in media/public relations, preferably with five years of exposure to public health sector;
  • Knowledge of Media Relations and Management;
  • Knowledge of Branding Concepts and Mechanisms;
  • Knowledge of Communication Principles and Tools;
  • Knowledge of Agency and Promotion Campaign;
  • Basic Knowledge of Budgeting and Cost Management;
  • Effective Communicate skills (written and oral);
  • A very good level of Collegiality skill; Fostering partnerships; Capability to execute for results; Innovative thinking skill; Skill on nurturing talent; Continuous learning capability are required.
