Business Manager

Key Responsibilities
 
The Business Manager will be responsible in the following key areas:
 
Budget Planning and Management
  • Provide senior administrative and budget management and analytical support to the unit head and scientists for implementation of current projects and new project development
  • Assist the Discipline Director and all relevant personnel on budget preparation, grant revenue projections, staffs costs, comparative data and other accounting information
  • Ensure project accounting procedures and treatment are in compliance with financial requirements of contract, CGIAR Financial Guidelines and Manuals, IAS and Center’s policies and guidelines (joint responsibilities with Project Accountant)
  • Provide analysis of monthly and periodic project related financial reports for management review including forecast of overall performance of the unit including unit’s KPG, attainment of budget, etc.
Administration
  • Responsible in managing and overseeing the administration function in the discipline office
  • Coordinate and manage direct report to implement all administrative activities within the Discipline’s objectives
  • Manage activities within agreed budgets and in accordance with Center’s policies
  • Assist in strategic planning for the development of the discipline
  • Oversee and manage the relevant staff travel information, communications and information technology system with focus on the SAP system
Project Management
  • Development of proposals pricing and methodology and support to the scientists and unit head
  • Serve as a focal point for liaising with regional and program country offices, partners, government agencies and other institutions on all matters pertaining to the management of research within the region and new project development.
Key Requirements
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Business Administration or related field
  • Post graduate or professional accounting qualifications an advantage (e.g. MBA or CPA) will be an added advantage
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in office management, finance and administrative work
  • Training and experience on project management is highly desirable
  • Excellent quantitative skills and familiarity with financial and budget management processes as well as policies and procedures
  • Experience in project management, proposal development, and financial management
  • Ability to interact professionally with a range of internal and external partners at various levels in a cross-cultural setting
  • Experience in an international research or development organization is preferred
  • Proficient in both written and spoken English
  • Familiar with Microsoft Office applications and accounting software
  • Able to travel extensively
  • Able to work in a multicultural / international environment
