MANDATE OF THE DEPARTMENT:
UNAIDS Regional Support Teams (RSTs) provide timely and effective support to UNAIDS Country Offices, while working with regional partners to coordinate and provide programming and technical support to strengthen national responses. RSTs provide regional leadership and ensure advocacy at regional level.
Main tasks and Responsibilities of the Position:
The incumbent will report to the Regional Director. In close collaboration with other members of the Regional Office, Co-sponsors and relevant partners and stakeholders, the incumbent is assigned the following responsibilities:

Coordinate the technical inputs at RST to enable the Senior Adviser and Regional Director to scale-up and integrate effective HIV basic programme activities to reduce sexual transmission of HIV, including condom promotion and distribution, prevention programming among affected key populations and behaviour change programmes. This includes collaboration with a large array of partners and stakeholders at regional level and providing technical support to UNAIDS' efforts to assist countries to develop effective and evidence informed strategies and interventions

Streamline RST's efforts to promote the scaling-up of and access to programmes on elimination of Mother to Child Transmission of HIV in line with the Global Plan towards the elimination of new HIV infections among children by 2015 and keeping their mothers alive; and of HIV prevention programmes for people who inject drugs.

Harmonise UNAIDS' regional efforts to further promoting the Prevention Revolution and Treatment 2.0 Agenda by managing inputs into reports and briefs. Coordinate initiatives to enhance community involvement and the development and implementation of action plans.

With other team members, advocate for a strong, comprehensive, coherent and coordinated HIV prevention and treatment response, in line with the identified international targets, with all partners and stakeholders at regional level. Coordinate assistance in the implementation of advocacy strategies to raise the priority of HIV.

Liaise with Headquarters and Country Offices in the region providing support, guidance and strategic information.

Provide and coordinate support to the Regional Director and other colleagues, including drafting reports, talking points and briefs.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Advanced university degree in the following areas: social or medical sciences, epidemiology and behavioural surveillance, social and behavioural sciences, public health and demography.

Experience:
Essential: A minimum of 7 to 10 years of professional experience in the HIV and AIDS field with a focus on policy and advocacy and implementation of HIV prevention and/or treatment programmes.
Desirable: Experience working with UN agencies, governmental agencies or civil society organisations at regional or country level.
Languages:
Essential: Advanced knowledge of English and good working knowledge of Russian. Knowledge of another UN official language an asset.
Additional Information:
Positions at the international professional category within UNAIDS will be subject to the Organization's Mobility Policy. The above-mentioned position is a rotational position and its standard duration of assignment is linked to the ICSC hardship classification of the duty station.
Annual salary: (Net of tax)
USD 67,483 at single rate
USD 72,467 with primary dependants
Post Adjustment: 81.8 % of the figure(s) on the left side. This percentage is to be considered as indicative since variations may occur each month either upwards or downwards due to currency exchange rate fluctuations or inflation.
