Field Assistant with the Research Group of Respiratory Viruses under the Centre for Communicable Diseases (Advertisement #69/13) - icddr,b - Dhaka, Bangladesh

icddr,b invites applications from suitable candidates for the position of Field Assistant with the Research Group of Respiratory Viruses under the Centre for Communicable Diseases. The appointment will be made on a fixed-term basis for 1 year, but may be extended for further period depending on satisfactory performance and availability of funds.

Duty station – Dhaka

Salary – Annual Tk. 177,790/- inclusive of house rent and conveyance allowances with other admissible benefits. 

Benefits/facilities - 14.8% retirement fund contribution by icddr,b, children allowance @Tk.1,420/- per child per month, medical facilities for dependent spouse and children, group life insurance. Subsidized canteen, transport and daycare facilities subject to availability. 

Job Profile

• Collect data from the eligible patients of surveillance hospitals using Personal Digital Assistant (PDA)
• Jointly work with study physicians to identify eligible patients and collect samples;
• Storage of collected samples to the dry shipper safely and transport samples from field to icddr,b’s laboratory;
• Support other surveillance studies in the hospitals;
• Maintain close liaison with the study physicians and other key officials of the surveillance hospitals.

Requirements

• H.S.C passed or equivalent with good academic records; 
• 2 years working experience in the relevant field including handling, storing and transportation of biological specimens;
• Prior research experience in hospital based surveillance would be an added advantage;
• Ability to adjust to work with the government/private hospital environment;
• Ability to identify and facilitate prompt mitigation of any difficulties arising in the field related activities of the surveillances;
• Ability to coordinate field activities and maintain liaison with staff members, surveillance physicians and other hospital staff;
• Excellent verbal and written skills in Bangla.
