Basic purpose The successful candidate will acquire detailed epidemiological data, measure environmental factors of epidemiological processes and quantify these processes in rice diseases. She/He contributes to efforts in modelling pest and disease effects on rice crop health for better understanding of the effects of production situations upon crop health and the effects of climate change on rice pests.
Roles and responsibilities - Design and management of experiments - supervision of activities related to the planning and conduct of experiments
- Data collection: measurement of disease intensity, plant growth and microclimate variables; Data processing: entry, preliminary synthesis, statistical analysis
- Epidemiological and ecological modelling activities: including empirical, statistical and mechanistic models used within a GIS (geopgraphic information system) environment and as stand-alone models
- Supervision of technical staff
- Preparing reports and presentations


Qualification Requirements:


- MSc (Plant Pathology, Botanical Ecology, Agronomy, Entomology or related fields)
- At least the equivalent of one year exposure to research , throughout academic training (intership etc.)
- Experience in crop science experiments is required
