Job Description:
The ITUC recently established an office in Yangon. One of its central functions will be to coordinate and provide hands-on training to Burmese workers so that they will be able to effectively organize, register and administer trade unions, to effectively represent members in the workplace, to bargain collectively and to resolve industrial disputes. The training will also serve to identify and mentor trade union leaders. This training will be developed in close coordination with ITUC’s affiliate – the Federation of Trade Unions – Burma (FTUB).

The role of the Programme Coordinator will be to administer and carry out skills development on organizing, collective bargaining and union administration, as well as to provide practical experience necessary to carry out these lessons. The Coordinator will also provide mentoring and support to unionists, including advocacy on issues pertaining to trade union rights.
The Programme Coordinator will report to the head of office, as well as to the ITUC HQ in Brussels.

Qualifications:
The successful candidate will have trade union experience. He/she will have extensive practical experience in labour organizing and will be able to train and mentor workers and leaders on successful organizing tactics and strategies. The candidate will also have experience in industrial relations and be able to guide unions on matters such as grievance handling, collective bargaining and dispute settlement matters. Familiarity with trade unionism in Asia is a plus.
The successful candidate must speak English. Other languages, including Burmese, will be considered a strong asset.
The ITUC will consider candidates seconded from their current positions for the term of the contract with the ITUC.
