Background / General description:

IFC’s Advisory Services is structured along four thematic business lines, namely: Sustainable Business Advisory (SBA), Investment climate, Access to Finance, and Public-Private Partnerships. The SBA business line builds on IFC’s commitment to inclusive growth and on its environmental and social performance standards to promote sustainable business practices among firms in sectors such as infrastructure, extractive industries, manufacturing, agribusiness, and services. SBA programs promote good corporate governance practices, build the capacity of small firms, advance women entrepreneurs, and encourage inclusive management and investment decisions. IFC works with companies to encourage improved practices towards employment and growth, address climate change, and promote sustainable agribusiness and forestry. SBA in South Asia has a portfolio of nearly 30 projects with a total volume of USD 23 million and 25 staff working in 4 countries and 5 offices.

Under the Sustainable Business Advisory Business Line, the South Asia Water Program (“Program”) works with private sector players, corporate supply chains, technical experts, financial institutions and government agencies to promote sustainable water practices and technologies. The Program covers projects in India and Bangladesh, and focuses on three strategic pillars of (1) Agri-water efficiency (2) Industrial Water Efficiency, and (3) Water Supply, including facilitation of the necessary enabling environment for private sector participation.

The IFC SBA Business Line is looking to recruit an Operations Analyst to support its South Asia Water Program, working under the general direction of the Head for Water Programs in South Asia, based in Kolkata, India.

Duties and Accountabilities:
The Operation Analyst will work under the close supervision of the Regional Lead for Water. His/her overall responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following tasks:

1. Work as an integral part of the IFC South Asia water team and the Regional Sustainable Business Line in refining the regional water strategy, performing business development activities, and preparing advisory project proposals for clients, respectively donors;

2. Closely track and report on existing and potential product resources and project pipeline; draft internal concept notes; and structure basic elements of partnership agreements;

3. Follow up on activities related to implementation of advisory projects, while strictly complying to IFC advisory policies and guidelines; including preparation of standard reports and supervision documents, budgeting and financial reporting, and monitoring and evaluation;

4. Support knowledge base of the water team; specifically, carry out research and document industry knowledge, practices, trends and key players;

5. Develop informative relationships with internal and external clients and stakeholders, and ensure to be responsive to clients’ stated needs;

6. Actively engage with Advisory staff across IFC offices to learn from and share best practices in Advisory Services of IFC.

Selection Criteria:
The following criteria will be used for selecting a candidate:

• University Degree (masters) or equivalent in either Business A dministration, Economics or a related area;

• Minimum 2-5 years of relevant experience in the private sector or with a development agency; knowledge of the water sector is a significant added plus;

• Understanding of good practices in the design and implementation of private sector development projects;

• Should be independent and autonomous and be able to operate with minimum support;

• Should be a self starter and have the ability to work under pressure and tight deadlines;

• Should be pragmatic, flexible, and able to work simultaneously across multiple teams;

• Should be able to communicate and present ideas effectively and be fluent in oral and written English;

• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office software, particularly excel and power point.
