Project/Proposal Summary: 
Women in Transition (WIT) will invest in opportunities that enable educated women to enter and advance into decision making positions in Afghanistan’s public, private and civil society sectors. For young women with at least a high school education, WIT will provide access to advanced professional development opportunities through four specific practice areas under the WIT umbrella: 1) Women in the Economy, 2) Women’s Rights Groups and Coalitions, 3) Women in Government, and 4) Women’s Leadership Development.  This is a five year project based in Kabul, Afghanistan.

 

Position Summary:
The Director of Business Development and Employment Training will oversee Task Orders under the Women in the Economy (WE) component of the WIT IQC. The purpose of WE activities is to increase women’s successful participation in the economy as entrepreneurs and managers in the private sector. The Director will support the development of business and employment incubators, which will offer professional business development services and market-driven technical and vocational training to women. S/he also will support efforts to address the obstacles to women’s participation in the private sector, including barriers to credit and financing.

Responsibilities:
• Design and manage the implementation and monitoring of all component activities, ensuring full coherence of inputs of international and domestic partners;
• Supervise and ensure high-quality management of business and employment incubators, technical and vocational training, and other professional development and technical support programs for measurable impact on women’s economic participation in the private sector;
• Establish procurement mechanisms for and manage sub-contracts, manage component budget and expenditures, and manage the recruitment and supervision of component staff and consultants
• Coordinate with donor counterparts, responding to all component related requests as required and ensuring timely donor reporting on all component activities and results;
• Participate in senior management processes and decision-making.


Qualifications:
• Significant experience managing programs related to women’s entrepreneurship and participation in private sector enterprises, particularly on USAID funded projects;
• Experience in Afghanistan or other conflict-affected, and understanding of the challenges faced with regard to women’s participation in the economy;
• Master’s degree in a relevant field, or equivalent experience;
• Ability to live in Kabul and travel within the country;
• Outstanding spoken and written communication skills in English; proficient Pashto/Dari preferred.
