Polling Specialist, Nepal - Kathmandu, Nepal

BACKGROUND:
The Polling Specialist will lead the development of a national public polling strategy in Nepal.   The specialist will lead the development of a terms of reference for a polling firm assist in the selection process, develop survey framework, and provide training to staff where necessary in the deployment of periodic pubic opinion polling in Nepal.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Work with staff members on the design and implementation of the sampling and weighting plan for public opinion polling project, but also on questionnaire development and analysis of survey data.
  • Train staff on interviewing techniques and strategy as well as other relevant areas in opinion polling and research.
  • Analyze and interpret results from public opinions polls.
  • Assist in oversight and ensure adherence of ethical standards in implementation by the polling unit.
  • Report results from qualitative and quantitative research through clear, concise presentations and written reporting.
  • Assist in the development of a training module for journalists to enable them to more accurately report on results of public opinion polls.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience in qualitative and quantitative research with extensive opinion research.
  • Extensive experience in survey design and implementation and sampling (e.g., selection, stratification, and weighting, development of sampling frames).
  • Experience statistically analyzing public opinion data with Stata or SPSS and writing reports or presentations based on this analysis.
  • Ability to adjust to shifting political circumstances and create programming accordingly.
  • Sensitivity to cross-cultural dynamics in the work place.
  • Relevant university degree.
  • Experience living and working in region preferred.
